International Piano Festival Brescia Bergamo
Where music takes shape
Music is the form of time within the mind.
Allegro, adagio, sostenuto: musical movements resonate with the movements of thought.
For years, Centro Paolo VI has collaborated with the International Piano Festival of Brescia and Bergamo, hosting musicians and orchestras at Palazzo Santangelo as they perform in the city’s theatres.
In these weeks, between the garden and the corridors, something can be heard.
Not on stage. Before.
The International Piano Festival of Brescia and Bergamo
The International Piano Festival of Brescia and Bergamo takes place every year, from April to November.
Each year, internationally renowned pianists perform either as soloists or in dialogue with orchestras at the Teatro Grande in Brescia and the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo.
Founded in the 1960s, the Festival has hosted artists such as Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Krystian Zimerman, Claudio Abbado and Riccardo Muti, as well as ensembles including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
One of its defining features is its thematic structure: each edition is built around a specific composer, cultural context or historical period.

Centro Paolo VI and the artists’ stay
Between the stage and the city, there is a space you cannot see.
This is where the Festival passes through Centro Paolo VI.
Artists arrive and prepare. Time stretches and gathers focus.
At times, walking through a corridor or pausing in the garden, you may catch something: a hint of violin, a single piano note.
This is the moment when music takes shape.

Teatro Grande and Palazzo Santangelo
The Teatro Grande in Brescia is one of the Festival’s main venues.
Built in the 17th century, it stands in the heart of the city, on the site of the former Accademia degli Erranti.
Its Ridotto, designed by Antonio Marchetti between 1760 and 1769 in Rococo style, creates a direct link with Palazzo Santangelo.
The same architect designed the monumental staircase and the Grand Hall of the Palace.
A shared idea of space, of representation, and of the city itself.

The International Piano Festival of Brescia and Bergamo is a major classical music event held every spring in northern Italy.
It brings internationally renowned pianists and orchestras to perform in the Teatro Grande of Brescia and the Teatro Donizetti of Bergamo.
Centro Paolo VI collaborates with the Festival by hosting musicians and ensembles at Palazzo Santangelo, providing a space for preparation and concentration before performances.
